What inspired me to write the God of Secrets series?
I was searching for the next "big" series idea and I asked myself, what is something that has a mystique about it? I'd always wanted to write a series involving shadows, too. The idea of combining these concepts jelled around Secrets. They have a mysterious aspect to them and reframing secrets as a form of magic just made the whole idea take off for me. The topper to this "mystery cake" was discovering Harpocrates, Greek god of secrets, and the lore associated with him! I could not, not tell his story. I hope you enjoy!

Description

Ancient and deadly secrets. Rogue magic. A dark and sexy god. They’re nothing she wants, but everything she needs.

Archaeologist Pellucid Rose discovers THE find of the century when an earthquake hits her Mycenae, Greece dig. But before she can claim it, a dark, dangerous, and very sexy stranger steps from a swirl of shadows claiming she’s loosed a sphinx on the world by translating an ancient secret on one of the scrolls.

What’s more, he insists Secret Magic requires her to go with him to capture the ferocious creature.

Against better judgment, Pell teams up with the hot stranger to protect the world from her mistake only to discover more than she bargained for about Secret magic and the influence it has on Earth. But worse, she discovers that this ancient god has dangerous secrets of his own that could destroy the world, and only she has what it takes to stop him.

Young adult book with some bipolar tendencies. I had a bit of a hard time deciding if I like this book but despite myself I enjoyed it. The story line is fun and I’m curious about where it will go. If you can get past constant ‘inner voice’ dialogue and the occasional feminist rant it’s good. Overall I would recommend to anyone liking this genre.

So many things happen in the book, from the adventure to the mythological creatures to the God’s to the many kept secrets and so much more. I was hooked from start to finish wanting to know everything Pal did and feeling like I learned so much. There was a lot of information in this book, too much for me to retain, that it still fascinated me as to how much I still didn’t know but that I was curious to see how everything was connected. Archeology has always been a mystery to me and I wondered the stories behind it. This was an insight.Anyway, these two characters are amazing. Their first adventure comes and goes so quick that you wonder how there is more to the story, but their adventures continue along with their banter, her growing desire, and his secrecy. It’s worth continuing the story and leaves you wanting to know what adventures await Harpoc and Pal in book 2.

Empire of Ash was such a fun read. It is lighthearted and yet kept things exciting and suspenseful. It is a real escape which is just what I needed right now. When I had to put it down I couldn’t wait to pick it back up. I really enjoyed the way the author mixed old myths into the modern world. The heroine of our story, Pell, was not your usual girl which was nice for a change. She is smart and nerdy but so lovable and she stands up for herself. I really loved how she took no BS from our hero, Harpoc.I also really enjoyed Lee’s use of language, I am an avid reader and sometimes find that not every novel is worth the read. But this one definitely is, you will not regret picking this book up. I really enjoyed the start of this series and cannot wait to follow Pell and Harpoc on their future adventures.

This book while having a developed plot for Pell the archaeologist to make a new discovery yet to have to not tell all about it. The author has woven into the book some of the struggles women go through while working in predominately male fields giving readers a glimpse of how Pell dealt with them and giving the reader the opportunity o think about how they too might deal with these same issues. Interwoven in the story is the paranormal twist and complications being thrown at Pell and Harpoc, the mystical man she also uncovered at the dig site. The two find themselves dealing with problems caused by scrolls uncovered at the first dig site. but re-buried along the way, We are left at the end of the book wondering what new discoveries the two will find and need to deal with in Book 2.

Amazing, well written, easy to read first book in the series, full of action, magic, romance and awesome MC, with a fantastic plot and great world building Pell is an Archaeologist, who happens to discover “the find” of the century and the sudden appearance of a hot, sexy stranger, turns her world upside down, making her live the best adventure of her life. Chasing mythological beings across beautiful and ancient archaeological places, her trust and feelings for this mysterious man keep going deeper but, can she really trust him??? This is the first book of this Author I have read and I absolutely loved it, can’t wait for the next one to find out what’s coming next for Pell and Harpoc

What an exciting story! I get really nervous about romance books, because so many get that routine, blah-ba-blah.. This story is absolutely nothing routine, pre-said words, or boring! There was so much excitement, inner turmoil, passion, worry, and concern… I do believe there was not even a dull moment in this book!Pell’s life was turned upside-down, from the majick, and then Harpoc… hubba bubba!! He sounds totally HOT by Pell’s account. I also love the inner dialog that Pellucid has with herself, it is such a ‘real’ touch to what a girl might really be thinking and going thru.I am SO looking forward to the next book in this series!

  9. Georgia McNabb

I have Never read or listened to this author before, got the book on Audible and listened to it there. Narrator was Excellent and brought the storyline to life. I found this Author’s sense of humor so good, just a hoot!! The inner monologue Pell has throughout the book made me laughmore times then I can say. Pell the Main Character is quite a Character and she has the same deep streak of Curiositie as myself which just made me laugh all the more.Highly recommended this Story and really want to listen to the 2nd book in this Series.
