Before that moment, life follows a familiar path. The character may have doubts, suspicions, or concerns, but they can still choose to look away. They can still convince themselves that things are fine.
Then something changes.
A question appears.
And once it's asked, everything is different.
In Verityn's case, her journey doesn't begin because she discovers a shocking secret. It begins because she refuses to ignore the questions piling up around her. Strange disasters are spreading across Clarion. Explanations that once seemed reasonable no longer fit what she's seeing. Small inconsistencies begin to connect into a larger pattern.

A single question can challenge assumptions we've carried for years. It can send us searching for information, reexamining old beliefs, or stepping onto a path we never expected to take.
Of course, asking difficult questions can be uncomfortable. Answers have a way of demanding change.
That's why so many people avoid them.
But every meaningful journey begins somewhere, and often that "somewhere" is a question no one thought to ask.
