One of the things I love most about Verityn is that she asks questions.
That may not sound particularly heroic. She isn't the strongest person in the room. She isn't the most influential. She isn't the one everyone listens to.
In fact, most of the time, people wish she would stop asking questions altogether.
Verityn has spent her entire life surrounded by answers. The Kingdom of Clarion has explanations for everything. The rings everyone wears are normal. The way the world works is normal. The rules are normal. So normal, in fact, that most people never stop to wonder whether those explanations are true.
But Verityn does.
She notices small inconsistencies. She remembers details others dismiss. She asks questions that make people uncomfortable. Not because she's trying to cause trouble, but because she's genuinely curious.
And curiosity can be dangerous.
History is full of examples of people accepting things simply because they've always been that way. Sometimes the greatest obstacle to discovering the truth isn't deception. It's familiarity. We stop looking closely at things we've seen every day.
Verityn's journey begins with a simple refusal to accept things at face value.
What if the explanation everyone believes is incomplete? What if the answers you've been given don't tell the whole story? What if asking the wrong question is safer than asking the right one?
The more Verityn investigates, the more she discovers that truth often hides beneath assumptions no one thinks to challenge.
Sometimes the bravest thing a person can do isn't having all the answers, it's being willing to ask the question everyone else has stopped asking or never think to ask.
