A Personal Note... And Becoming Closer to a Character

A Personal Note... And Becoming Closer to a Character

In Morningstar Academy, celestial warrior Gladriel falls after disobeying a direct order of the Almighty. She is sent directly to the academy and as part of the intake process, they shave her hair off in order to help break her, making her malleable to the ways of the other side.

Never have I identified more with a character... lol. Why?

For the past 20 years I have suffered with Essential Tremor. At one point I could not get a hot mug out of the microwave because my tremor would kick in and make my hands shake uncontrollably.
.
Hubby and I underwent detox for a year last year and with the elimination of the high levels of heavy metals in my body it got significantly better; tremors have been directly correlated with high levels of mercury. I was able, once more, to do basic things like handle hot liquids, however, the shaking was still there.

With age though, tremors progressively worsen to the point that it will be hard to eat, etc.

Well, there's good news. There is a non-surgical procedure called Focused Ultrasound that with only ultrasound waves, they are able to interrupt the hyperactivity of my thalamus, the part of the brain that controls movement.

I underwent a 45 min - 1 hr long procedure that removes tremors for 15-20 years. The only downside... alas, they shave your entire head... Everyone I've told always says, your hair will grow back. I know, but it will take a long while... but I know it's for my best so... all good.

I am pleased to say the tremor is gone for now and my mobility is "normal" once again!!!

Funny things about having no hair:
1) My head is nearly like it is covered in Velcro. LOL. That sounds weird, but it's not smooth and nothing slides. My wig and scarves stick to my head, literally.
2) It feels really weird when I lay my head on a pillow.
3) Taking a shower is significantly quicker with soap alone, rather than shampoo plus conditioner needed.
4) There's no hair to remove from the drain, post shower. LOL.

The whole experience has made me connect with Gladriel even more. Sometimes life strips away something familiar, comfortable, or beautiful... but not to destroy us. Sometimes it’s part of healing.

Also, I’ve realized fantasy readers are uniquely prepared for this situation because I’ve spent years reading about fierce bald warriors, mysterious prophetesses, battle-hardened queens, and intimidating mentors with shaved heads. So if I suddenly start speaking in cryptic prophecies and standing dramatically in doorways... just roll with it. 😂

Get Cursed, the first book in the Morningstar Academy series to experience Gladriel's fall and see how she responds to having her head shaved... does it break her or does she grow from it?

Readers, tell me: what’s the weirdest or funniest “side effect” you’ve ever experienced from something that ultimately turned out to be good for you? OR what fictional character would absolutely rock being bald?
